Tiger's Eye is formed when Quartz is formed over crocidolite, eventually completely replacing is. During this replacement process, iron deposits with crocidolite dissolve, staining the quartz giving Tiger's Eye its golden yellow to brown colour. The name comes from its slightly shiny, silky lustre giving it a striking chatoyant, striped appearance, similar to that of a cat's eye. It can also be found in pinky colours as well as blues and reds. Tiger's Eye is most commonly found in the US, Mexico, India, Australia and South Africa.
